10:34 | Arequipa (Arequipa region), Sep. 26.
More than 60,000 people will arrive in Arequipa through Alfredo Rodriguez Ballon International Airport for the 36th edition of the Perumin Mining Convention, according to
Andean Airports of Peru (AAP) —concessionaire of said air terminal.
The AAP reported that these people will arrive in the "White City" —as Arequipa is known— thanks to 388 air operations scheduled before, during, and after the event.
According to the concessionaire company, over 34,000 people will arrive at Arequipa's air terminal on more than 100 commercial flights between September 25 and 29.
As expected, the number of passengers increased even before the inauguration of Perumin, it noted.
"We expected a growth in the passenger flow two days before the mining event's start date. For this reason, unlike 2022, we increased the number of air operations by 19.4% in the previous days," AAP Manager at Arequipa's Airport Tito Luque stated.
"This initiative was possible thanks to the infrastructure we have in place," he added.
On the matter, the air terminal's infrastructure allows for simultaneous operations to be carried out, which is fundamental in time periods with high demand or when large-scale events are held in the city, as is the case of Perumin, the most important mining convention in the continent.
The AAP coordinated the welcome of the first passengers who arrived at the air terminal to attend the mining convention.
This welcome was accompanied by dances typical of the region and activations relating to the mining sector, which were organized by associated companies.
