The President of the Republic, José Jeri, affirmed that the transitional government he leads seeks the country's unity and reconciliation, for which real and ongoing dialogue is essential to lay the foundations for the future.

The Head of State spoke these words at the beginning of the 134th session of the National Accord Forum, which was held this morning at the Government Palace.

He stressed that the current times require new measures and, at the same time, respect for the country's institutions is necessary, and that the National Accord is the appropriate platform to make this possible.

Government's priorities

The president Jeri stated that the purpose of convening this important forum is to take concrete actions along three main lines.

He indicated that the first of these actions is the fight against citizen insecurity, due to the complicated situation citizens experience daily, after noting that the State's response has not been sufficient.

"Second, elections have already been called, and consequently, the full exercise of democracy for the citizens who will participate in the two elections next year must be guaranteed. And to achieve this, in addition to providing the conditions for their proper conduct, security conditions must also be created. Everything is linked," added President Jeri.

The third aspect, he said, is attracting greater investment so that the country can become a regional power.

He added that these three pillars are fundamental to the administration he leads and that it is the responsibility of the current authorities, at all levels, to contribute to this.

“It is essential to lay the foundations for the future based on real dialogue, not a circumstantial dialogue, but a real and constant dialogue. Only in this way can the foundations for the future be built, which is also one of the government's objectives,” the president emphasized.

Finally, he expressed his hope that new participants will be able to join the upcoming sessions of the National Agreement and provide space for other sectors that are not currently present, so that a broad debate can take place and immediate actions can be taken to reconnect with the population's problems.
