Peru: Over 16,000 ha of coca eradicated in Feb-Jul 2018

The Peruvian Interior Ministry's Special Project for Control and Reduction of Illegal Crops in Alto Huallaga (CORAH) has eradicated a total of 16,045.83 hectares of coca plantations between February 1 and July 17.

In this sense, anti-drug agents eradicated 5,998.30 ha in Tocache (San Martin), 8,836.68 ha in Puerto Inca (Huanuco) and Oxapampa (Pasco), as well as 1,210.85 ha in Padre Abad (Ucayali).

The institution also reported the destruction of 45 clandestine laboratories in Oxapampa (32), Puerto Inca (7), Padre Abad (4), and Tocache (2).

Moreover, stings eradicated 7,827 square meters of seedlings, thus avoiding the cultivation of illegal coca.

It must be noted these operations were conducted within the framework of the 2018 Annual Plan for Reduction of Illegal Coca Growing Area —under the National Strategy to Fight Drugs 2017-2021.

Such raids are supported by the National Anti-Drug Agency (Dirandro) and the Police Aviation Department.
