The Third National Collegiate Criminal Court on Tuesday morning began reading the final decision in the trial of Ollanta Humala, his wife Nadine Heredia, and others, over the alleged crime of money laundering related to campaign contributions through the Nationalist Party.

Judge Nayko Coronado Salazar, head of hearings for the mentioned court, announces the criteria that have been considered in issuing the first-instance decision.

Former President Ollanta Humala and other defendants are present in the courtroom, except Nadine Heredia.

In the previous session, the judge stated that the case is ready for final decision in an in-person session in Courtroom 1 of the Carlos Zavala Loayza judicial building in Lima.

On April 9, the personal defense statements of defendants Ollanta Humala, Santiago Gastañadui, and the Peruvian Nationalist Party were concluded.

During their statements, Gastañadui Ramirez and Nationalist Party's lawyer, David Leon, requested the acquittal of all charges presented by the Public Prosecutor's Office.

In previous sessions, the court heard the arguments of Nadine Heredia Alarcon, Ollanta Humala Tasso, Ilan Heredia Alarcon, Eladio Mego Guevara, Maribel Vela Arevalo, Mario Torres Aliaga, Antonia Alarcon Cubas, and Carlos Arenas Gomez Sanchez, all of whom denied the charges against them.

It is worth noting that defendant Rocio Calderon Vinatea waived her right to personal defense statement.

According to the Prosecutor's Office, Humala Tasso allegedly received illicit money from the Brazilian construction companies Odebrecht and OAS for his 2011 presidential campaign, as well as from the Venezuelan regime by order of Hugo Chavez Frias in 2006.

The Third National Collegiate Criminal Court is composed, in addition to Judge Coronado Salazar, of magistrates Juana Mercedes Caballero Garcia and Max Vengoa Valdiglesias.

As is known, Ollanta Humala Tasso was President of the Republic from 2011 to 2016.
