Peru: New restrictions go into effect in Lima and Callao starting today

Starting today, May 10, Metropolitan Lima and Callao have dropped from extreme to very high risk level for COVID-19, which means restrictive measures in place across these areas will change as described below.

Curfew

The night curfew (mandatory social immobility) will be from Monday to Sunday from 9 pm to 4 am.

Social mobility on Sundays (May 16, 23, and 30) will be allowed. This can be done on foot, by bicycle, public transportation, or taxi. However, the use of private vehicles will be restricted on these days, except for those who hold a special permit —issued by the competent authority— to perform essential activities.

Interprovincial transportation

Interprovincial transportation by land will be available but will operate at 50-100% capacity, as regulated by the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC).


Markets

In the above-mentioned period, from Monday to Sunday, stores providing essential goods, supermarkets, markets, bodegas, and pharmacies will operate at 50% capacity.

Shopping centers

The capacity limit at malls, shopping arcades, conglomerates, and department stores will be 30%. These businesses are allowed to operate from Monday to Sunday and must close no later than two hours before the local curfew.

Restaurants/delivery

Well-ventilated indoor restaurants can operate from Monday to Sunday at 40% capacity.


Meanwhile, at establishments located outdoors, there is no capacity limit provided that biosafety protocols are observed.

Restaurants can sell food via delivery, from 4 am to 11 pm from Monday to Sunday.

Churches

Masses and in-person services inside churches remain suspended, although places of worship can open at 30% capacity.

Banks and financial entities

At banks and other financial entities, the capacity limit is 50%.

Casinos and gyms

The capacity limit at casinos and slot machine halls, gyms, cinemas, and indoor locations for performing arts is 30%.


Libraries and museums 

At libraries, museums, archaeological monuments, cultural centers, and galleries, the capacity limit is 40%.
