The National Justice Board (JNJ) has unanimously resolved to suspend Attorney General Patricia Benavides for a period of six months.

On Wednesday night, the JNJ reported that the provisional suspension of the Attorney General was decided within the framework of constitutional duties.

"The National Justice Board (JNJ) decided unanimously, supported by a duly reasoned resolution, to order the provisional suspension for six months of Mrs. Liz Patricia Benavides Vargas as Supreme Prosecutor of the Public Ministry and, consequently, from the position of Attorney General," reads a statement.

The precautionary measure of preventive suspension is issued as part of the immediate disciplinary proceedings initiated against Benavides Vargas, with the purpose of ensuring proper development, preventing obstruction, and ensuring the effectiveness of the final resolution.

The JNJ indicated that it acts in strict compliance with the Constitution, its organic law, and its regulations on disciplinary procedures, guaranteeing due process, as well as safeguarding the defense of the person under investigation and the public interest.
