Peru: Justice Board opens immediate disciplinary proceedings against Attorney General

During a plenary session, the National Justice Board (JNJ for its acronym in Spanish) opened immediate disciplinary proceedings against Attorney General Patricia Benavides Vargas over the publicly known facts as a result of the investigation by the Special Team of Prosecutors against Corruption of Power and the Peruvian National Police.

The resolution to start the aforementioned proceedings has already been notified to its recipient, the JNJ reported in a statement on Tuesday evening.

Immediate disciplinary proceedings are those conducted on a judge or prosecutor in cases in which there is sufficient evidence of notoriously irregular conduct, or in the commission of a highly serious disciplinary offense detected at the time it is being carried out, the document specified.

The National Justice Board (JNJ) is in charge of appointing, evaluating, confirming, and sanctioning judges, prosecutors, national control authorities of the Public Ministry and the Judiciary, as well as the heads of the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) and the National Registry of Identification and Civil Status (RENIEC).
