Peru's Health Ministry (Minsa) sent 20 oxygen cylinders, 4 mechanical ventilators, and 16,000 COVID-19 diagnostic tests to
Piura region, plus 5 ventilation units and 15,000 rapid tests to La Libertad region.
Regional Health Director Victor Tavara received the new batch from Lissete Ortega, and adviser from the
Ministry of Health, Sunday at Piura's Air Group.
Tavara affirmed that both the oxygen cylinders and high-end volumetric ventilators are very important at this point in order to improve the supply of hospital services and Intensive Care Units.
"The oxygen cylinders and equipment will be delivered immediately to our main hospitals. Likewise, the 16,000 tests will help us continue tracking, isolating, and containing the positive cases. The move will strengthen the epidemiological surveillance in the region," said Tavara, who will promote a mass screening for detection of coronavirus in the region.
Minsa's representative claimed that such aid is a clear example of the strategic alliance and articulated work with regions, while urging the population to keep up with the health measures, such as hand washing, social distancing, and the use of face masks.
To date, Minsa has provided 1,225,005 units of personal protective equipment (PPE) to doctors and healthcare providers in Piura, as well as 48,400 rapid test kits.
Additionally, the Ministry has delivered 1,116,173 PPE units and 43,000 serological tests to La Libertad.
