Peru PM: Government's COVID-19 support for regions is permanent

09:59 | Lima, May. 31.

President of the Council of Ministers Vicente Zeballos on Sunday affirmed that the Government's COVID-19 support for regions is permanent and dynamic.

Before heading to Piura region in northern Peru, where he is due to pay a work visit, Zeballos noted that this disease is unpredictable. Besides, in the absence of a vaccine, efforts to combat it must be dynamic and include coordination with all health authorities.

"This work does not slow down, and we are ready to go to regions. We are going to Piura with human resources and effective presence to increase coordination with regional governments," he expressed.

According to the high-ranking official, the Council of Ministers will meet to evaluate a Production Ministry's proposal concerning Phase 2 of Peru's reopening plan.

Trip to Piura

On this trip, Zeballos is joined by Congress COVID-19 Commission Chairman Leonardo Inga and Congress Second Vice-President Guillermo Aliaga. In Piura, the region's lawmakers will join the above-mentioned meeting.

"It is the relevant arena. There is coordination between the Executive Branch and Parliament," he told media outlets.
