Mining exports in Peru amounted to US$11.173 billion between January and April 2021, up 49% compared to the same period last year (US$7.510 billion), the National Society of Mining, Oil, and Energy (SNMPE) has reported.
The mining and energy guild said that copper exports in January-April 2021 totaled US$5.688 billion, an increase of 66.7% over the first four-month period in 2020 (US$3.413 billion).
Meanwhile,
gold exports reached US$2.910 billion in said period, a growth of 17.7% from January-April 2020 (US$2.473 billion).
April exports
In addition, the National Society of Mining, Oil, and Energy stressed that mining exports amounted to US$2.831 billion in April 2021, an increase of 142.6% over the same month in 2020 (US$1.167 billion).
It also noted that copper sales in April this year reached US$1.509 billion, which implied an expansion of 169.3% in comparison with the same month in 2020 (US$560 million).
The business guild reported that
copper exports benefited from the increase of 67.6% in its price and from the higher volume of shipments abroad (60.7%) compared to April 2020.
For its part, gold sales reached US$722 million in April 2021, up 95.6% from the same month a year earlier (US$369 million).
"Exports of this precious metal were favored by an 87.2% increase in the volume of shipments abroad and because the price of gold grew 4.5% as compared to April 2020," the SNMPE stated.
