The
Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) issued a statement on Wednesday saying its
Tourist Protection Network has coordinated efforts to protect domestic and foreign visitors to Machu Picchu in the face of the 24-hour strike that has been scheduled for August 24 in the district of the same name.
Moreover, it reported that Cusco Tourism Police has set up a safe transportation corridor that connects Alejandro Velasco Astete International Airport and Cusco's Main Square.
Thus, tourists will be transported to their hotels or lodges by bus. Besides, they will escorted by police cars and motorcycles.
The entrance tickets to the Llaqta (citadel) of Machu Picchu, for August 24, will be rescheduled —free of charge— for Thursday, August 25, and Friday, August 26.
Mincetur emphasized that this has been made possible thanks to the coordination with the Machu Picchu Park Headquarters.
Moreover, the government agency stated that railway lines and Consettur (a transportation company) have suspended operations on August 24, as a precautionary measure to protect visitors.
Mincetur provides free information and support to assist tourists through the following
