“Peru continues to be a strategic partner for the development of the mining sector and a destination offering opportunities to build new alliances with investors from around the world,” stated Mayra Figueroa Valderrama, Deputy Minister of Mines at the Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem).

She made these remarks during "Peru Day"—a featured Peruvian session—at the International Mining and Resources Conference + Expo (IMARC) 2026, held in Sydney, Australia.

In her address, she conveyed greetings from the Minister of Energy and Mines, Guillermo Shinno Huamaní, and highlighted the sector’s commitment to promoting responsible and sustainable mining investments, strengthening investor confidence, and creating favorable conditions for the development of new projects.

She further emphasized that Peru possesses significant geological potential and ample opportunities to attract international capital.

In this context, she presented the 2026 Mining Investment Project Portfolio, which comprises 66 projects representing an estimated investment of US$ 64.075 billion, as well as a mining exploration portfolio consisting of 57 projects with an estimated investment of US$ 672 million.

A key message from her presentation was that the current leadership at Minem is focused on strengthening investor confidence through concrete actions designed to provide greater legal certainty, stability, and regulatory predictability.

In this regard, she highlighted efforts to simplify administrative processes, reduce bureaucratic hurdles, and optimize procedures related to the execution of mining projects—all with the aim of facilitating investment progress and helping to unblock projects, while ensuring full compliance with legal, environmental, and social requirements.

As an example of this institutional commitment, the case of the Cangallo mining project—located in Arequipa and backed by Australian capital—was presented. Its execution was declared to be of national interest through Ministerial Resolution No. 457-2026-MINEM/DM, dated October 21, 2026.

The aforementioned resolution also includes a proposal to reserve 3,600 hectares of state-owned land for a period of four years. This is intended to facilitate the necessary processes for land access and project development, in accordance with the current regulatory framework, without replacing the required authorizations and permits.

This decision serves as an example of the initiatives being promoted by the sector to facilitate investment, encourage mineral exploration, and strengthen the confidence of both domestic and foreign investors.

Furthermore, the Vice Minister outlined the current administration’s priorities regarding administrative simplification and regulatory improvement. These efforts are aimed at optimizing evaluation timelines, streamlining mining procedures, and enhancing the country’s competitiveness, all while upholding environmental and social standards.

She also highlighted the opportunities presented by critical minerals for the global energy transition, as well as Peru’s potential to attract investment in exploration, project development, and international technological cooperation.

Finally, she reaffirmed the commitment of the Energy and Mines sector to continue fostering an environment conducive to mining investment—one based on clear rules, predictability, and public management focused on facilitating the development of sustainable projects that generate employment, economic growth, and greater opportunities for the country’s regions.
