More than 30 dance groups took part in the "Puno Identity Parade 2026" (Corso de la Identidad Puneña 2026), an event that brought together local institutions, merchants, and residents to mark the beginning of the 358th-anniversary celebrations for the province of Puno.
The participants made their way along Simón Bolívar Avenue, concluding their route at Ricardo Palma Street.
The parade featured a variety of institutions, associations, schools, and organizations, with participants organized into categories such as dance troupes and floats.
Throughout the procession, the delegations showcased cultural and artistic expressions, including music, traditional dances, and highly creative floats.
Javier Ponce Roque, Mayor of the Provincial Municipality of Puno, emphasized the event's importance in boosting the local economy, promoting domestic tourism, and revitalizing local traditions. He also highlighted the deep sense of pride felt by the people of Puno.
Public institutions took part with elaborate displays and traditional dances, demonstrating their commitment to preserving cultural heritage. These artistic performances underscored the region's unique identity and the traditions of the Collao Plateau.

Local markets also joined in, featuring floats decorated with regional products. Merchants took the opportunity to showcase both their economic activity and their local pride, while social organizations and cultural collectives presented traditional choreographies.
Residents from various neighborhoods gathered on the sidewalks early in the day to watch the creative dance procession and applaud the participating groups.
This high level of civic engagement fostered a strong sense of community spirit throughout the anniversary celebrations.
Security was managed by police officers and municipal staff, who accompanied the procession along its route. According to the provincial municipality’s organizing committee, the event proceeded smoothly and without any issues.
The "Corso de la Identidad Puneña" (Parade of Puno Identity) has established itself as one of the core events of the anniversary program; the celebration fostered cultural identity and local pride, marking the province’s 358th anniversary.
