15:59 | Lima, Jul. 13.

Two medical brigades made up of 37 health professionals, including doctors, nurses, technologists, and pharmacists, on Monday traveled to Amazonas and San Martin to reinforce the care of COVID-19 patients in said regions.

The health workers met at the Social Health Insurance System (EsSalud) headquarters in Jesus Maria district and then headed to Air Group No. 8 in Callao, from where they left for the above-mentioned regions to provide timely care to patients infected with the novel coronavirus.

EsSalud's Hospital Peru Coordinator David Orihuela reported that 27 health professionals were sent to the Amazonas health network, of which 15 will provide support to COVID-19 hospitals in Bagua Chica and Bagua Grande.

The remaining medical personnel (12) will join emergency brigades in Condorcanqui, Santa Maria de Nieva, Sama, and Chachapoyas areas for monitoring and rapid care of infected patients.

Additionally, 2 tons of medicines and personal protective equipment (PPE) were delivered to said region. The aid included face masks, aprons, gloves, glasses, respirators, caps, disposable clothing, overalls, medical supplies, face shields, among other protective items.

The other brigade, made up of 10 doctors, left for San Martin to improve the care of the population within the Tarapoto health network.

The two delegations were carried on flights operated by the Peruvian Air Force (FAP).

According to Orihuela, a third group consisting of 15 health professionals will leave for Jaen city —which is part of the Lambayeque health network— bringing 2 tons of medications, rapid tests, and personal protective equipment.
