Representatives of Lima's Electric Train Authority (AATE) met with experts from London's new underground train line (Crossrail), with whom they exchanged information on different models and experiences in public transportation infrastructure construction.

The meeting, held at AATE headquarters, addressed the management process of investment projects in Peru and how the construction of Line 2 and future lines at Lima's metro network is being managed.

The gathering also featured a delegation from the Department for International Trade, the British Embassy in Peru, and Infrastructure Exports: UK (IE:UK).

Unlike Peru, in the United Kingdom, more than one construction company is hired to carry out the project and handle different flows at the same time while monitored by Crossrail.

London experience

Crossrail is building a 120-kilometer metro that will serve London and its surroundings with an investment of 15 billion pounds (about US$20.7 billion).

Even though Crossrail depends on the Department for Transport and Transport for London —responsible for London's major road corridors— it is governed by an independent Board of Directors that makes autonomous decisions.

The management process is similar to that of private companies, being evaluated on results and fulfillment of goals.

Technicians from both countries agreed that the current Public Private Partnership (PPP) model is not always the best option in its traditional form for this type of large-scale transport infrastructure projects, due to the risks they entail.
