Peru leads economic growth in LatAm

15:31 | Lima, Sep. 4.

National Confederation of Private Business Institutions (Confiep) Chairman Roque Benavides on Tuesday affirmed Peru continues to lead economic growth in Latin America, despite the complex political and justice-related issues currently noticed in the Inca country.

"(…) Peru continues to lead economic growth in the region, and projections show it will remain this way in 2019," Benavides expressed.

"According to IMF's latest report, national GDP will close with a 3.7% expansion this year, and will increase to 4.1% in 2019," he said.

The officer went on to add Peru's growth rates are higher than the average figures projected for Latin America and the Caribbean, including other Pacific Alliance members, such as Colombia and Mexico.

The private sector is and will remain the Inca country's economic growth engine, as evidenced by private investment's results in the first half of 2018 (6.3%), he pointed out.

As is known, the Economy and Finance Ministry revised upwards its growth projection for 2018 from 3.6% to 4%.
