Peru: Law enforcement agents clash with suspected terrorists, seize weapons

A combined patrolling force —made up of members of the Armed Forces and Peruvian National Police— clashed with suspected terrorists in an area belonging to Echarati District in La Convencion Province, the Joint Command of the Armed Forces (CFFAA) reported on Friday.

In a statement, the CCFFAA specified that the event took place on Thursday morning.

Within the Manto Verde Plan, members of the Counter-terrorist Battalion No. 314 (33rd Infantry Brigade of the Eastern Operational Command) managed to recover important war material.

Among the recovered material are: one UZI pistol, four pistols, one shotgun and one backpack containing 9mm ammunition and four explosives (dynamite).


The Joint Command stressed that these actions are framed in strict compliance with the law, adding that the seized material was made available to the Public Ministry in order to continue the investigations.

Lastly, the CCFFAA ratified its commitment to continue working in the Valley of Apurimac, Ene and Mantaro Rivers (VRAEM) until achieving the total pacification in this important area of the country.
