Peru Justice Minister: Video shows ex-President Fujimori's good health

13:08 | Lima, Nov. 6.

Justice Minister Vicente Zeballos on Tuesday affirmed the video showing former President Alberto Fujimori at Lima-based Centenario Clinic proves he is in good health.

However, he clarified the Judicial Branch is in charge of verifying his true health condition.

According to the official, from what can be seen in the recording, there is no reason or excuse for Fujimori to remain hospitalized.

Last Sunday, a video featuring Alberto Fujimori —who watches the hearing in which a judge ordered a 36-month preventive prison for his daughter Keiko— started to circulate.

Thus, the ex-President can be seen getting up from a bed, removing the wires connected to medical monitors, and even giving instructions by phone.

The minister indicated the Judiciary must convene a Medical Board, so they can assess Fujimori's condition and issue a medical report. He went on to add the Judicial Branch is the one in charge of the ex-Head of State's situation.

As is known, former President Alberto Fujimori ruled the Inca country between 1990 and 2000.

After having fled to Japan and traveling to Chile —from where he was extradited to Peru— the patriarch was sentenced for crimes against human rights and corruption committed during his term in office.

In 2017, he was pardoned by ex-President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, who later stepped down amid a political scandal.
