Peru: Judiciary passes active extradition request for dismissed Judge Hinostroza

10:05 | Lima, Nov. 7.

Peruvian Supreme Court approved an active extradition petition from the Preparatory Investigation Court for former Supreme Judge Cesar Hinostroza.

According to a statement via Twitter, the court also ordered the referral of the entire proceedings to the Justice Ministry through the Supreme Court's Presidency.

Hinostroza is accused of leading a criminal group —composed of magistrates, lawyers, and entrepreneurs— that operated in the justice system.

The Preparatory Investigation Court ordered a 36-month pretrial detention for the dismissed judge, who has been accused of allegedly being involved in organized crime, committing the crimes of illegal sponsorship, influence peddling, and incompatible negotiation.

The ex-magistrate has been arrested in Madrid, Spain, since October 19, after he had left Peru through a border control point in the north.
