The National Justice Board (JNJ) unanimously agreed to launch disciplinary proceedings against former National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) Chief Piero Corvetto for the alleged commission of a serious offense during the 2026 General Elections.

The Plenary's decision comes after concluding Preliminary Investigation No. 018-2026-JNJ conducted against him.

"The decision of the autonomous body's Plenary is based on Report No. 026-2026-GATRP-JNJ, which evaluates the facts under investigation and concludes that it is appropriate to move forward to a formal stage of the disciplinary process," the institution reported.

The JNJ clarified that the conclusion of the preliminary investigation does not imply a prejudgment regarding Corvetto's alleged responsibility.

Rather, it constitutes a "necessary step toward clarifying the facts within a procedure that guarantees due process and the right to defense."

"The current Plenary does not conduct 'express' or immediate disciplinary proceedings against those subject to administrative action, since it safeguards constitutional respect for fundamental rights, granting them the right to present arguments, offer and produce evidence, among other guarantees," the Board added.

The JNJ also indicated that, with this decision, it reaffirms its constitutional role of supervising, evaluating, and sanctioning the conduct of senior officials within the justice system and electoral bodies, in strict compliance with legality, as well as the principles of transparency and institutional independence.
