Before completing his tour of Peru's southern area —which began last December due to the announcement of a resumption of mobilizations—
oversaw the deployment of National Police members, who accompanied diverse marches held in various regions of the country on Wednesday.
These communications enabled central government authorities to redouble security (efforts) in Ayacucho, Puno, Cusco, Arequipa, and Moquegua so as to restore public order and safeguard the integrity of citizens, protesters, as well as of public and private property.
Legal framework
Minister Rojas arrived in Ayacucho last Tuesday to articulate actions with officials from the
Public Ministry, the Regional Government, and the VIII Macro Police Region.
While in the area, the high-ranking official monitored the protests in situ, urging National Police chiefs to continue their work within the legal framework and respecting human rights.
It should be noted that in prioritized areas, such as highways or airports, the intervention of law enforcement officers relies on the support of the Armed Forces, through the
Ministry of Defense.
