Peruvian Interior Minister Ruben Vargas on Friday met with representatives of the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), Peruvian National Police, and Ministry of Foreign Affairs to articulate actions in favor of the investigations into the alleged human rights violations occurred during the demonstrations held last week in Peru to protest against the former administration of Manuel Merino.

"Our main interest is to know the truth, even if it is hard. I have ordered the Inspector General of the Peruvian National Police and the General Office of Integrity at the Ministry of Interior to carry out the necessary investigations to determine whether there was negligence," he expressed.

"During my term, there will be zero tolerance for human rights violations and corruption. We will also respect the due process in any investigation that is carried out," he said.

The first fatality was 22-year-old Jack Bryan Pintado Sanchez, who suffered gunshot wounds.

The second one, Inti Sotelo Camargo —aged 24 years— was admitted to a hospital with gunshot wounds to the chest at heart level.
