The National Penitentiary Institute (INPE) on Tuesday ordered that former Housing Minister Geiner Alvarado be admitted to Miguel Castro Castro Prison in Lima's San Juan de Lurigancho district.

This measure was announced via the institution's official Twitter account.

"The defendant, Geiner Alvarado Lopez, has been classified to the Miguel Castro Castro Penitentiary Establishment, in accordance with the procedures established by the INPE," the tweet specified.

As is known, 39-year-old Alvarado served in ex-President Pedro Castillo's administration.

Due to the decision made by the Judiciary, the measure of restricted appearance against the former Cabinet member has been upgraded.

Initially, Alvarado had been in custody at INPE's jail in the Ancon II penitentiary facilities (also in Lima), where he was waiting to be informed about the facility he would be transferred to.
