Peru: Health Minister steps down

Citizen Zulema Tomas on Friday night resigned from her post as Minister of Health of Peru.

Tomas' resignation comes after it became public she had not mentioned in her affidavit that her sister works at the State-run Sedapal water company.

"I am grateful to you for granting me the honor of serving our country," she wrote in the resignation letter sent to President Martin Vizcarra.


Bio

Zulema Tomas served as head of the National Institute of Child Health (INSN) since 2015, before joining the Ministry of Health.

She earned a Master's degree in health administration and hospital management, plus another in education from Lima's Federico Villarreal University.

Likewise, she holds a doctorate in medicine from the above-mentioned educational institution.
