Peru: New Health Minister sworn in

Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra on Monday administered the oath to new Health Minister Zulema Tomas.

She will thus replace Silvia Pessah, who decided to step down from the post last weekend.

Sworn in on April 2, Pessah was part of the new administration led by President Vizcarra, who took office on March 23.

The swearing-in ceremony took place around noon at the Government Palace's Golden Hall in Lima.

The event was attended by the entire Ministerial Cabinet and other government officials.

About Tomas

Zulema Tomas has served as head of the National Institute of Child Health (INSN) since 2015, before joining the Ministry of Health.

The brand-new minister earned a Master's degree in health administration and hospital management, plus another in education from Federico Villarreal University.

Likewise, she holds a doctorate in medicine from the above-mentioned educational institution.
