Peru remains the world's leading producer and exporter of table grapes. The
reported on Monday that grape exports totaled US$790 million in the first half of this year, a 17.1% increase compared with the same period in 2025.
Midagri's Economic Studies Directorate highlighted that Peruvian table grapes have established themselves as one of the country's most emblematic agricultural export products, alongside blueberries, avocados, and coffee.
In recent years, Peru has established itself as the world's leading grape exporter, surpassing traditional powers such as Chile, the United States, and Italy, the government agency indicated.
"This leadership has been built on a solid foundation of varietal innovation, logistical efficiency, climate adaptation, and market access," the government agency pointed out.
Cumulative progress
According to Midagri, between January and June of this year alone, the United States remained the main destination market, with exports to said country reaching US$446 million, an 11.3% increase compared with the same period in 2025.
In terms of volume, shipments remained virtually unchanged at 275,000 tons.
Mexico was the second-largest market, with sales totaling US$93.7 million, 46% higher than in 2025.
The government agency also highlighted the emergence of new destinations this year to which no exports had been recorded during the comparable period of 2025.
Israel stood out at US$9.3 million. Meanwhile, Taiwan became another new market, receiving US$21.6 million.
Greece, Ireland, Lebanon, and Cambodia were added to the list as well.
Global ranking
The Ministry reported that Peru has topped the global grape-exporter ranking since the 2022/2023 campaign, thanks to a supply that combines genetic diversity, traceability, climate adaptation, and compliance with international standards.
"This has remained the case even under adverse conditions, such as El Niño phenomenon, which affected the 2023/2024 campaign and led to a decline in export volumes," it noted.
Grape exports rose by 6.1% in the 2025/2026 campaign, which concluded last March, compared with the previous campaign, when the total reached US$1.998 billion.
Midagri added that Peru's monthly grape production shows a clear seasonal concentration associated with the crop's main harvest periods: January to April in regions such as Ica, Lima, Arequipa, and Ancash, and October to December in Piura, Lambayeque, and La Libertad.
Leadership
Currently, Peru leads the world in grape production and exports, thanks to the presence of more than 40 varieties, including Sweet Globe, Crimson Seedless, and Arra 15, which have been widely accepted by consumers.
Another notable aspect is the operation of the Chancay Port, which represents a "game changer" for the industry, as it not only reduces transit times and costs to Asian markets but also strengthens Peru's position as a logistically superior supplier in the Southern Hemisphere.
