Peru Gov't underlines Cotabambas communities' willingness for dialogue

12:46 | Lima, May. 23.

The dialogue with Cotabambas Province's communities (Apurimac region) continues, and a stretch of the mining corridor has not been blocked, Development and Social Inclusion Minister Paola Bustamante informed on Thursday.

Bustamante —who is also the Chairwoman of the Multisectoral Commission for Complying with Las Bambas Mining Project's Commitments— underlined the communities' willingness for dialogue, adding they have never stopped participating in the meetings held in the area.

Likewise, she affirmed the Government has attended the audiences carried out this week in diverse communities —such as Fuerabamba— through the Presidency of the Council of Ministers' (PCM) Deputy Territorial Governance and Secretary's Office for Dialogue.

Furthermore, the official assured good results have been achieved.

For instance, the company is committed to hiring over 500 locals for the mining project.

Moreover, Bustamante reaffirmed the Mutisectoral Commission for Cotabambas Development will install a provincial roundtable. The mayors of the province and of Cotabambas districts, as well as communities' representatives will participate in the meeting.

In this sense, Justice and Human Rights Minister Vicente Zeballos will attend in representation of President Vizcarra's administration.

The work group will include 180 representatives of the communities in Tambobamba district belonging to Cotabambas Province.
