Peru Govt announces bill to create new General Mining Law

12:26 | Lima, Jul. 28.

Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra on Sunday announced that his Government will submit a bill to Congress to produce a new General Mining Law.

In his speech, Vizcarra noted that mining is a very important industry to the Andean nation.

According to the Head of State, the current act has been in force for almost 30 years

"It is therefore necessary to update it with a view to adapting it to the current reality, providing a clear framework for investors, as well as calm and development for everyone," he remarked.

On the other hand, the Peruvian leader reiterated his administration's commitment to socially responsible mining.

"The closure of the Arasi mining unit in Puno was completed this week, so it is no longer allowed to operate. We are going to ensure respect for people and the environment," he pointed out.
