In an effort to strengthen coordination between the national government and regional authorities, the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM) established the Multisectoral Commission for the Comprehensive Development of Puno Region.

The ceremony took place at the Lima-based Government Palace following the Council of Ministers session on Wednesday.

This event was led by the President of the Republic, Jose Maria Balcazar. It was attended by Prime Minister Luis Arroyo, Cabinet members, and Puno Regional Governor Richard Hancco.

The purpose of the commission—created through Supreme Decree No. 061-2026-PCM—is to formulate proposals for priority actions aimed at closing social and economic gaps through the promotion of basic services, infrastructure projects, and development strategies for the highland region.

The commission's technical secretariat, headed by the PCM Decentralization Secretariat, reported that the working group will remain in place for one year and be chaired by High Commissioner for Puno's Development, Felipe Aguilar.

It was further specified that the commission must prepare and submit, within a period not exceeding 60 days, a proposal for priority actions and coordinated strategies aimed at accelerating the southern region's comprehensive development.
