The government is promoting an investment of over S/2.4 billion (US$629 million) for the implementation of four tourism megaprojects aimed at enhancing Peru's offerings and strengthening its international competitiveness,
"We know that in every case there may have been governments that made significant efforts to improve infrastructure conditions, but during the time of the current government, those figures have been surpassed in terms of tourism investment," she stated.
These include the Choquequirao Cable Car System, the Arequipa–Colca Valley Tourism Project, the Northern Beaches initiative, and the Northeastern Tourism Corridor. They are considered strategic for energizing the flow of domestic and international visitors to various regions.
The government official stated that these tourism infrastructure investments represent a 150% growth compared to the previous five governments.
She also highlighted that the Investment Execution Unit for Foreign Trade and Tourism (UICET, formerly Plan Copesco) has completed 19 projects across 13 Peruvian regions, establishing a network of initiatives that help diversify the offerings and improve the quality of tourism services.
The Cabinet member added that efforts are underway simultaneously to enhance air connectivity, including the recovery of international flights and interregional routes.
In this regard, she underscored the upcoming reopening of Jaen Airport (Cajamarca region), whose suspension had caused significant economic losses and a major decline in visitors to the area.
Remarks were made following a Council of Ministers session on Wednesday.
