The Judiciary ordered that Betssy Chavez remain in pre-trial detention, after declaring inadmissible a petition submitted by the former prime minister to revoke said measure.
The request had been raised by the former Cabinet chief —within the framework of the investigation into her participation in the alleged crimes of rebellion and conspiracy.
"Judge Juan Carlos Checkley, in charge of the Supreme Preparatory Investigation Court, issued the resolution after evaluating the arguments presented by Betssy Chavez aimed at revoking the coercive measure imposed for a period of 18 months," the Judiciary reported on Thursday.
On December 28, a virtual hearing was held at which the requirement to end the pre-trial detention of the former prime minister over the
failed coup d'état of December 7, 2022, was evaluated.
Chavez's petition was based on a recent amendment to the Criminal Procedure Code, which establishes the review of a pre-trial detention order every six months, in order to determine if this measure remains in force.
As is known, Betssy Chavez served as minister of Labor, Culture, and Cabinet chief in the Castillo administration.
