Former Congressman Antero Flores-Araoz was on Wednesday sworn in as the new Prime Minister of Peru.

The event was held at the Government Palace in Lima.

"I have accepted the President's invitation," he said in remarks to RPP radio and TV station earlier today.

Within that framework, the lawyer urged calm, remarking his attempt to guarantee an orderly transfer of power following the general elections scheduled for April 11 next year.

Likewise, the ex-minister affirmed that he will call on Congress to work together for the sake of the nation, taking into account the economic and health crisis it is facing.

In statements to the Regional Communication Network (RCR), he expressed his intention to convene a unity Cabinet consisting of committed people of great patriotism who are willing to pull the country out of this difficult situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
