Foreign Affairs Minister Gustavo Meza-Cuadra on Friday highlighted the legacy left by Peruvian Ambassador and former United Nations Secretary-General Javier Perez de Cuellar, who died at age 100 two days ago.

Via Twitter, the cabinet member posted some statements along with photographs depicting the funeral of the former Diplomatic Service Ambassador, which began earlier today.

"Thank you very much, dear Ambassador Perez de Cuellar, for a generous life, dedicated to the service of the country and peace," he wrote.

The government official affirmed that "your departure hurts," but —at the same time— it is comforting to know that "your spirit lives forever in this house of Torre Tagle, which is yours, and that yours is the serene destiny of the just man."

"Thank you for (setting) the example, for the legacy of peace, humanity, and democracy. May your good star always remain with us (...)," he concluded.

As is known, Mr. Perez de Cuellar served as UN Secretary-General from January 1982 to December 1991.

During the transition Government of former Peruvian President Valentin Paniagua (November 22, 2000 — July 28, 2001) the ambassador served as Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs.
