Peruvian Foreign Affairs Minister Javier Gonzalez-Olaechea on Tuesday condemned the kidnapping of opposition leader and Voluntad Popular (Popular Will party) representative, Freddy Superlano, which occurred in the city of Caracas, Venezuela, earlier today.

A video posted on social media showed images of Superlano and his nephew being kidnapped by a group of hooded men, who fled in an SUV.

"I harbor hopes that his life is not in danger, and I extend my deepest solidarity to his family," Gonzalez-Olaechea expressed.

The event will take place on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. (local time) during which actions will also be taken in response to a situation that is worsening with each passing day.

The Cabinet member added that the diplomatic officials who were asked to leave Venezuela will do so in the coming days.
