Peru supported the declaration titled The Situation in Ukraine, which strongly condemns the illegal, unjustified, and unprovoked invasion of the aforementioned country by the Russian Federation.

This declaration was signed within the framework of an extraordinary session of the Permanent Council of the Organization of American States (OAS) held last Friday, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Furthermore, the signatory States condemned the illegal recognition of the Ukrainian regions Donetsk and Luhansk by the Russian Federation.

Moreover, they reiterated the importance of respect for the independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine, as well as compliance with the obligations established by international humanitarian law for the protection of the civilian population.

During the Permanent Council session, the Peruvian Government demanded the immediate start of consultations for a diplomatic, peaceful, and negotiated solution —in compliance with the principles and obligations contained in the Charter of the United Nations (UN), "considering that the Russian military offensive constituted an act of aggression, according to the UN General Assembly Resolution 3314."

The Situation in Ukraine was signed by Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, United States, Grenada, Guatemala, Guyana, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Republic Dominican Republic, Suriname, and Trinidad and Tobago.
