, on Monday launched the electronic visa, as well as the physical and virtual emergency passport, through the Sistema de Administración Migratoria Integral (Integrated Migration Administration System) or e-SAMI.
Foreign Affairs Minister Carlos Espa considered it an honor to participate in the launch of the electronic visa, as well as the physical and virtual emergency passport through e-SAMI, as it means "putting the State at the service of citizens, especially the most vulnerable."
"What is the emergency passport replacing? It is replacing the safe-conduct, a document given to people who are in a terrible and serious situation, characterized by hopelessness and despair. This safe-conduct document carried a certain stigma and did not provide all the full rights that the person required at that moment of hopelessness and despair," he said.
Moreover, the government official explained that the possibility of obtaining an emergency passport and an electronic visa through e-SAMI will save time and enable "kind and respectful treatment" for every citizen who approaches the Foreign Affairs Ministry.
"With this launch, we are taking another concrete step toward modernizing consular services, bringing the State closer to our citizens abroad, reducing barriers, and reducing the possibility of corruption," Espa stated.
"The fight against corruption through transparency is a fundamental element of State policy in any country, providing direct responses to the needs and rights of all Peruvians," he added.
The ceremony was also attended by Peru's Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister, Ambassador Eric Anderson Machado; Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) representative Matilde Bordon; and IDB Operations Specialist Francisco Zegarra.
The event took place at Torre Tagle Palace, the Foreign Affairs Ministry headquarters in Lima.
What is e-SAMI?
According to the Foreign Affairs Ministry, e-SAMI is a technological platform developed with the support of the IDB's international cooperation through its Migration Unit.
The implementation of e-SAMI is part of the digital transformation strategy promoted by the Foreign Affairs Ministry to provide citizens and users with more agile, secure, transparent, and efficient services, aligned with the highest standards of public management and user service.
