Air Canada made its first flight from Lima to the North American country, in which cargo warehouses were used to transport 35 tons of food —including fruits and vegetables— within the framework of the COVID-19 emergency.

The flight made on April 17 allows the supply chain to be kept in motion and contribute to the development of Peruvian exports.

"These are charter flights scheduled at the request of customer needs. Thus, Boeing 787 aircraft are used, with the capacity to carry the equivalent of 80 grand pianos," Air Canada expressed.

The airline —through its Air Canada Cargo division— has been operating cargo flights in Latin America for the transport of urgent shipments and other merchandise, thus supporting the global economy within the framework of the COVID-19 pandemic.

On the other hand, more than 2,700 Canadians —who had been stranded in Peru due to the state of emergency and border closure— have returned to their country on seven special flights, the airline reported days ago.
