Peru: Agro-exports reached 145 foreign markets in 2019

11:03 | Lima, Feb. 3.

Peruvian agro-exports (traditional and non-traditional) exceeded US$7.090 billion in 2019, which meant an increase of 6.6% compared to the similar period in 2018, thus reaching 145 markets, the Association of Peruvian Exporters (Adex) has informed.

The destination markets —which stood out— were Trinidad and Tobago, Gambia, Guadeloupe, Lithuania, as well as Curacao.

The healthy global trend contributes to boosting shipments as do the joint efforts undertaken by institutions such as the business guild and the public sector.

In this regard, ADEX Agro-exports Department Manager Susana Yturry highlighted the Law of Agricultural Promotion validity extension, since it leads to increasing non-traditional agricultural dispatches.

Therefore —in order to remain on the upward trend— Yturry expressed it is essential to boost the participation of entrepreneurs in activities that offer updated information, as well as at international fairs.

"This 2020, we will organize the X Capsicum Convention, Superfoods Summit 2020, III Passion Fruit Chain Strengthening Congress, and the 12th edition of Expoalimentaria fair, in which we will exhibit products-themed areas featuring avocados, blueberries, capsicums, mangoes, grapes, citrus, and passion fruits," the ADEX Agro-exports Department Manager said.

"We will also promote the participation of entrepreneurs at Biofach fair (to be held) from February 13 to 15 for them to learn about new trends in terms of organic products," she added.
