Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Rogers Valencia on Thursday welcomed the beginning of Expo Amazonica 2018 fair, noting it has become an important business platform for Amazon regions in Peru.

According to the government official, public and private sectors are articulating efforts to attract domestic and foreign buyers interested in Peruvian forest produce.

In this sense, Valencia stressed the participation of 60 buyers from 10 countries at the event, which is intended to secure around US$20 million in sale commitments.

"Expo Amazonica has drawn buyers from 10 countries. We also expect the attendance of more than 30,000 Peruvian nationals," the official told Andina news agency.

There are products with great potential such as camu camu, palm oil, and cat's claw —the latter known for its medicinal properties, he added.

The Cabinet member announced the presentation of the Cafes del Peru (Coffees from Peru) brand, which is set to promote specialty coffee production with the aim of conquering international markets.
