Organized by Peru's Exports and Tourism Promotion Board (PromPeru), Expo Amazonica 2018 fair will take place in rainforest city of Pucallpa (Ucayali region) on August 9-12.
35 foreign buying delegations —mainly from the United States, Europe, and Asia— plus 60 Peruvian exporters will join the event's business rounds on August 10.
Attending Peruvian entrepreneurs will represent cooperatives, associations, and producers —from Amazonas, Loreto, Madre de Dios, San Martin, and Ucayali regions— that specialize in the production of coffee,
cacao, and chocolate, as well as
biotrade goods.
Said biotrade products include sacha inchi (Inca peanut), camu camu berries, aguaymanto, pineapple, starfruit, pitahaya, cocona, aguaje fruit, heart of palm, and medicinal plants, among others.
Craft and fishery products will also be traded for the domestic market.
"The
Expo Amazonica 2018's business rounds will be held in order to internationalize the exportable supply of companies from Amazonian regions of the country, as well as to offer commercial expertise to local companies with export potential," PromPeru Exports Director Luis Torres stated.
It should be noted Expo Amazonica 2016 fair's business rounds saw US$11.4 million in transactions, whereas the 2017 edition reached US$17.2 million.
Eastern Macroregion
Eastern Macroregion members (San Martin, Loreto, Ucayali, and Amazonas) already export a variety of products to international markets.
Ucayali holds the third place when it comes to Eastern Macroregion shipments, having reached US$20.8 million in foreign sales —mainly to China, the Dominican Republic, and the Netherlands— in 2017.
The most demanded products were strips and friezes for parquet flooring, sawn timber, and
cacao.
