The
National Election Board (JNE) on Sunday reported that sub-national debates are scheduled to take place in Metropolitan Lima, the Constitutional Province of region, and every capital of the 24 regions across the country.
Beranice Carretero —a specialist at the National Education Directorate of the JNE— remarked that the debates will be held in-person in each electoral division.
She said that only political organizations that have registered their candidacies for the electoral process at the regional level will take part in said events.
The official pointed out that the holding of electoral debates was agreed in the Electoral Ethical Pact —a document that political organizations have pledged to adhere to.
"Citizens need to know the concrete proposals submitted by every political organization and listen to the candidates or future authorities," Carretero stated.
Talks with political organizations with a view to holding such debates will begin on September 6.
