Peru: Development, Social Inclusion Minister steps down

Peruvian Development and Social Inclusion Minister Jorge Melendez informed he has presented his resignation from the post, which has been accepted by President Martin Vizcarra.

According to Melendez, he notified the Head of State about his decision during a meeting last Sunday. 

In this sense, the former Congressman indicated he had resigned in order to prevent affecting the government and the top official with the reports that have surfaced in the last few days. 

Concerning the report that links him to a company punished for deforesting the Amazon, the ex-minister said he has not worked there since June 2016. 

A week earlier, a TV report claimed that the mother of his son had been hired by the former Congress through his recommendation.

"They can investigate me," he expressed.
