15:09 | Lima, May. 18.

Peru's Defense Minister Walter Martos supervised the adaptation of the safety protocol at the Wholesale Fruit Market located in Lima's La Victoria district, developed jointly with leaders of the establishment.

Joined by La Victoria Mayor George Forsyth, the defense sector head said that safety measures have been implemented in cooperation with Agriculture-Irrigation and Production Ministries.

"We are inspecting the entrance, the areas for handwashing stations, and the areas where hand sanitizers will be placed, but, above all, the flow of people, which must be one way in and one way out. We are also identifying the maximum capacity," the Cabinet member expressed.

Martos explained that the cleaning of the market, which was temporarily closed last week, is not finished yet, in order to complete the signaling and to install the water taps.

Likewise, the government official reported that further tests are being taken to detect COVID-19. The tests are being conducted on vendors and loaders.
