Peru Def Min: Government to strictly supervise protocols

10:49 | Lima, Jun. 20.

Peruvian Defense Minister Walter Martos on Saturday announced that the Government will be strict in monitoring compliance with protocols for the resumption of activities in shopping centers and conglomerates on June 22.

"We cannot go back to the times before the pandemic (began), which were characterized by overcrowding. We must respect the 50% capacity protocols. Concerning the management of shopping centers, there must be supervisors who enforce social distancing standards," he expressed.

Within this framework, commercial establishments must comply with the protocols given by the Ministries of Health and Production.

In this sense, the cabinet member specified that Production Ministry officials —joined by members of the Armed Forces— will supervise the resumption of activities at shopping centers and conglomerates to guarantee compliance with the corresponding provisions and protocols.

He also indicated that the shopping centers and conglomerates —which have presented their protocols— were granted authorization to resume their activities.

Ministers Walter Martos (Defense) and Victor Zamora (Health) participated in the start of civic action for the benefit of residents of Ticlio Chico area located in Lima's Villa Maria del Triunfo district.

Initially set to last from March 16 to 30, the quarantine was extended until June 30.

Saturday marks the ninety-seventh day of mandatory social isolation in Peru.
