Production Minister Jose Luis Chicoma has highlighted the reduction in COVID-19 contagion and ICU beds occupancy rates registered over recent week in rainforest Loreto region.

"Based on information obtained from health authorities, a downward curve in various COVID-19 rates is shown," Chicoma expressed.

"However, we must not be careless; on the contrary, sanitary measures must be complied with and reinforced. For our part, we will continue coordinating with the Regional Government in order to bring all humanitarian aid, medicines, and vaccines that the region needs," he emphasized.

The Cabinet member highlighted that —supported by the Health Ministry (Minsa), Social Health Insurance System (EsSalud), and Defense Ministry— 16 airlifts have been done to Loreto so far, bringing more than 130 tons of medical equipment, medicines, diagnostic tests, oxygen cylinders, and three oxygen plants.

"Similarly, it is important to take into account that 34,039 doses of the vaccine against COVID-19 have been distributed. Thus, a total of 19,477 people received the first doses; of them, 14,562 have already (received) the two doses; 7,564 health professionals, 5,390 adults over 80 years of age, as well as 1,281 members of the Armed Forces and the National Police are already protected," he indicated.

Aquaculture

On the other hand, highlighting the productive potential of Loreto, the minister stated that in 2020 aquaculture harvest in this region grew 150.5% compared to the previous year.

Moreover, the government official commented that this advance is mainly due to greater cultivation of the gamitana fish, which experienced an increase of 107.3%.
