Cusco expects to welcome around half a million tourists —both domestic and foreign ones— in June, considered the Imperial City's Jubilee Month, during which time the good weather and vast living culture can be enjoyed.

Cusco's Regional Management of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Gercetur) Chief Saul Caipani reported that there was an increase in tourist influx registered throughout May —the beginning of the high tourism season.

The official was enthusiastic about the expectations because nearly 100% of tickets for attending the staging of Inti Raymi on Sacsayhuaman Archaeological Park's esplanade might have already been sold.

Besides, there is growing interest, plus international expectations, for the
Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum
 hosted by Peru this year.

Similarly, Caipani highlighted the increase in visitor capacity at Machu Picchu's Inca citadel to 5,600 per day, as well as the more than 150 festive activities in honor of the City of Incas, including academic, religious, cultural, and artistic activities to be held in Cusco's Historic Center.

"The economic side will rise, but we have to see clearly that we must continue fighting against insecurity and informality; it is a task that we are taking on for the sector jointly with the labor management section," he underscored referring to the accelerated interest in economic reactivation.

Vast heritage

This month, visitors will be able to visit Machu Picchu's Archaeological Park and Inca citadel, the Southern Valley, and the Sacred Valley of the Incas, which host countless archaeological remains, in addition to various provinces that also host scenic spaces and heritage legacies.

Meanwhile, in the City of Cusco, the living culture will be appreciated to its fullest, as hundreds of presentations involving music, dances, and indigenous artistic expressions will be performed by children, school students, teenagers, adults, and older adults from this metropolis, as well as from the highlands' provinces and this region's jungle area.

2025

Caipani announced that by 2025 the path might be paved for a good development of the tourism sector due to Machu Picchu's (increased) visitor capacity and the Chinchero International Airport execution.

"We have to work on action protocols. If we do not have contingency plans, unfortunately, (…) the whole chain might fall apart," he noted.
