Prime Minister Walter Martos on Tuesday affirmed that the vaccine against COVID-19 will be distributed in Peru during the first quarter of 2021 so that citizens can be immunized at that time.

The high-ranking official specified that the Government has already signed commitments with the Pfizer and the Covax Facility mechanism, which will allow Peru to acquire 22 million vaccine doses for 11 million Peruvians.

"At this time, we are working with the support of private companies for the logistics chain, which involves the distribution and application of vaccines (…)," he expressed.

In this sense, the Prime Minister said that a multisectoral group was formed. It is led by Ministers Mario Lopez (Foreign Affairs) and Pilar Mazzetti (Health), as well as relies on the participation of the private sector.

"They will not only work on the management of vaccine purchase, but also the distribution and application of vaccines. This is a complex job because it is not only one type of vaccine, but different ones and each one of them must have a particular cold chain," he added.

Prime Minister Martos supervised the delivery of food to vulnerable citizens in Lima's Pachacamac district.

On this occasion, he was joined by district Mayor Elvis Pomez and National Civil Defense Institute (Indeci) head Luis Carranza.
