The COVID-19 vaccination of people aged 30 and older has begun today, September 5, in Lima Metropolitan Area, Callao, Lima provinces, and Ica region, the Ministry of Health (Minsa) Immunization Director Gabriela Jimenez announced on Sunday.

The citizens of this age group are encouraged to visit the closest vaccination center —with their ID card— to receive their first dose of the vaccine.

Also eligible for vaccination are those aged 29 who will turn 30 by December 31 this year.

According to Jimenez, the age range for vaccination has been widened to 30 years and above after an assessment of the immunization process and the arrival of more than 2.5 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.

"We have the vaccine. Therefore, we need citizens to turn out. Their names may not be included on the Pongo el Hombro (I Lend a Shoulder) platform's list, but we are saying that they can come along with their ID card anyway," the Minsa official remarked.

"We cordially invite citizens to visit the vaccination centers to get their first dose starting today," she emphasized.

Vaccinathon

Noting that the Seventh Vaccinathon —a 36-hour vaccination event— is getting good response, Jimenez said that Minsa assesses the progress of the vaccination every day to determine if lowering the age bar for inoculation is needed and to close the gap on second dose vaccinations.

This non-stop vaccination drive kicked off on Saturday, September 4, at 7:00 a.m. (local time) and will come to an end today at 7:00 p.m.
