Prime Minister Walter Martos on Monday said that the
"COVID-19 does not kill by itself. Let us not be accomplices" campaign seeks to raise awareness in a sector of the population that has not become aware of the seriousness of the coronavirus pandemic.
In an interview with TV Peru, he explained that —in recent weeks— people thought that a normal stage was taking shape and began to visit their relatives and attend parties, thus resulting in a new wave of infections, which is why the "COVID-19 does not kill by itself. Let us not be accomplices" campaign was launched.
This initiative, he stressed, is aimed at those who have not become aware that a pandemic is going on and that the irresponsible decision to attend a party or play soccer may bring the virus home and infect their loved ones.
"This is a frontal campaign, aimed at people who until now have been insensitive to the deaths of family members," the Cabinet chief pointed out.
The idea, he stated, is to become aware of what can happen when people behave irresponsibly.
Three stages
The campaign consists of three phases, the first one comprises that group of people who became insensitive in their behavior and actions.
The second phase is aimed at people who have behaved responsibly, maintaining social distancing and using face masks during their commutes to work or services.
Finally, Martos explained that the third stage will be a call for the unity of all Peruvians in order to get ahead of this pandemic.
