Foreign Affairs and Defense Ministers of Peru and Chile on Tuesday took part in the 7th Meeting of the Permanent Committee for Political Consultation and Coordination —a dialogue mechanism known as 'two-plus-two' (2+2) talks.

According to the official Twitter account of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the talks were held within the framework of the Peru-Chile Presidential Meeting and IV Binational Cabinet, to be held in Chile.

The meeting featured Peru's Foreign Affairs Minister Cesar Landa and Defense Minister Daniel Barragan, as well as their Chilean counterparts, Antonia Urrejola and Maya Fernandez, respectively.

The 'two-plus-two' mechanism, established 19 years ago, brings together Foreign Affairs and Defense Ministers of both countries, seeking to contribute to the promotion of trust relationships, the development of a shared agenda, and the strengthening of links between their armed forces.

The authorities discussed political issues in Latin America and the challenges of the international system; regional integration; gender issues in the fields of diplomacy and defense; as well as UN peacekeeping operations and humanitarian assistance in the face of natural disasters.
